ONTARIO RESIDENTS: As of January 2023, Canada’s Greener Homes grant has been replaced by the Home Efficiency Rebate Plus (HER+) program, co-delivered by Enbridge Gas and Natural Resources Canada. This new rebate program offers up to $10,000 in rebates for home efficiency upgrades.

Information on Canada’s Greener Homes Grant
As part of the Government of Canada’s initiative, you have access to up to $5,000 to help you make energy-efficient retrofits to your home, including attic insulation. Since the program was launched, Canadians have received several millions of dollars to make energy efficiency retrofits to their homes.
In addition to the federal government’s Greener Homes Grant, there are other grant and rebate programs available to Ottawa homeowners that can help you save on your attic insulation. As part of your free assessment, Panda Insulation will help you find the right program for you.
The Greener Homes Grant can be combined with other rebates and grants with no limitations. Panda’s energy efficiency guides will work with you to identify the best ways to save on your attic insulation upgrade.
Important Update:
In June 2022, Natural Resources Canada introduced the Greener Homes Loan. This program provides eligible homeowners with an additional $40,000 interest-free loan once they have exhausted the initial grant amount of $5,000. Learn more about the Greener Homes Loan.

How much can you receive?
As part of the initiative, Canadian homeowners have access to up to $600 for EnerGuide evaluations and expert advice so you can begin to plan your upgrades.
Successful applicants have access to $5,000 total to help you make energy efficiency upgrades to your home, like attic insulation.
As of June 17th 2022, eligible applicants of the Greener Homes Grant will also have access to a $40,000 interest-free loan for further energy efficiency retrofits.
If you have already received the Greener Homes Grant, the loan program will open to you on August 31st, 2022.
To qualify for the Greener Homes Loan, you must first be eligible for the Greener Homes Grant.

Who is eligible for the Greener Homes Grant?
All homeowners in Canada are eligible to apply for the Canada Greener Homes Grant, provided they can show:
- Valid proof of ownership of the residence
- That the property is their primary residence
Types of residences that are eligible:
- Single and semi-detached houses
- Row housing
- Townhomes
- All-season cottages
- Mobile homes on a permanent foundation
- Permanently-moored floating homes
- Mixed-use buildings (residential portion only)
- Small multi-unit residential building (three storeys or less with a footprint of 600m2 or less)
What retrofits does the Greener Homes Grant cover?
Homeowners can choose to make as many energy efficiency retrofits as they wish from the list below, but the total grant amount will not exceed $5,000 per applicant.
- Home Insulation, like attic insulation
- Air sealing
- Energy-efficient windows and doors
- Smart thermostat installation
- Efficient space and water heating
- Renewable energy (e.g., solar)
- Resiliency measures (must be combined with another upgrade)
Eligibility criteria for an attic insulation grant:
- Insulate a minimum 20% of the total area of your attic, cathedral ceiling or flat roof.
- You must increase the insulation value (R-value or RSI).
- Add insulation in the same location (e.g. attic floor vs. attic ceiling) as the insulation present at the time of the pre-retrofit evaluation.
